FEAR OF COMEDY w/ Over Unity and Cautious Horsemen
Rosemount Hotel, North Perth
Thursday 30th June

Fear of Comedy would like to welcome all pilgrims to a glorious musical synaxis at Rosemount Hotel on Thursday, June 30th from 8pm. Joining them in this sonic liturgy will be  alt-prog rockers Over Unity and the ambient indie pop of Cautious Horsemen.

Fear of Comedy have completed recording and they will soon be distributing pressed demo CDs to folks within the industry (demos can also be heard at www.fearofcomedy.com/audio).

Meanwhile, guitarist James Styles has been in the laboratory further experimenting with new mixes of Max Ducker’s recordings.

The band is now hard at work on even more new material and plans are afoot to expand their sound even further in the coming months with the application of new musical methods and devices.

Wednesday June 15 @ The Flying Scotsman

This week Fear of Comedy will be celebrating the completion of our recent recording sessions, you can stream the demo at fearofcomedy.com or witness our latest offering for yourself with an intimate show at the Velvet Lounge this Wednesday the 15th of June.

Symbols & The Evolution of Ideas

you may have noticed our new logo..

the logo is based on a concept developed by the band and executed and realised by aspiring young graphic designer Ben Cole.

The design is based on alchemical symbols for Gold; symbolising humankind’s goal to obtain perfection in mind and spirit. Copper; this symbol embodies such characteristics as love, balance, and artistic creativity, it’s also known for its ancient use in producing mirrors.  Platinum; representing determination, grit, and seeing our manifistations to completion and finally Sulphur; represents the multiplicity of human nature and the eternal aspiration to reach enlightenment.

We sent through other concepts such as the sigillum Dei Aemeth, or Seal of the truth of God. A large, complex circular symbol, with six pointed figures and the names of God and various angels incribed thereon.  The sigil is best known in relation to the Enochian workings of Dr. John Dee, as he was instructed to re-create it by angels he contacted during his scrying sessions with Edward Kelly. (The sigil predates Dee, having first appeared in a thirteenth century grimoire; it was later expanded upon by Athanasius Kircher.) The wax disk was placed in several places on the Holy Table- beneath Kelly’s scrying stone and under each leg. The sigil would then protect the workings from outside influences.

Ben Cole presented us with the new font design which included the letter A done in the style of the symbol of freemasonry, a touch we loved. We asked him to elaborate on the concept of letter missing parts and in doing so we ended up with a new font that works as an evolution of our old font. which was originally based on the font for the film VERTIGO by Alfred Hitchcock. Our graphic designer at the time, Lucas Bowers created this font for us and added cracks and seperations in the lettering to give it that shattered, damaged look.

We find a new sybolism in the font design and the entire logo > the evolution of ideas and the fact that many parts make a whole.
